The crew needs to reach the line and any access points, which may be in the yard, near the house, or under the driveway. Move vehicles, outdoor furniture, and anything stored near the path so equipment can get through.
If the line runs under landscaping you want to protect, ask what footprint the work will affect so you can move plants or document the area beforehand.
Plan Around Water Shutoffs
- Confirm the planned shutoff windows before the work date
- Store water for drinking and flushing if a shutoff is expected
- Ask whether the shutoff is partial or whole-home
- Know who to call if conditions differ from the plan
Keep People and Pets Safe
Excavation creates open holes and heavy equipment traffic. Keep children and pets away from the work area for the duration, and confirm where the crew will enter and exit the property.
